Martin's No. 5 pit crew wins Mechanix Wear award

LOS ANGELES (July 24, 2009) – Mark Martin’s No. 5 Kellogg’s/CARQUEST crew has proven they have the speed, power and performance to keep their driver at the front of the field. In 19 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events this season, the No. 5 crew has helped Martin achieve an 11th-place ranking in the driver standings, four wins, three pole positions, five top-five finishes and nine top-10s.

That’s why the No. 5 Kellogg’s/CARQUEST team has been chosen as the Mechanix Wear Most Valuable Pit Crew Award for the second quarter of the 2009 season. This is the second time the No. 5 team has received the award, which is voted upon by the crew chiefs.

“I’m so proud of everyone on this race team,” said Alan Gustafson, crew chief of the No. 5 Chevrolet. “The Mechanix Wear MVP award means a lot because our competitors are the ones that vote for it. So, to know that they have recognized the talent of this race team, that’s very rewarding. Our pit crew coaches, Mark Mauldin and Mark Morrison, work these guys real hard. I’ve watched them put everything into their job this year, and the results have shown.”

The Mechanix Wear Most Valuable Pit Crew Award is awarded quarterly throughout the NASCAR Sprint Cup season, and the winning pit crew is determined by a vote of each team’s crew chief. The four quarterly winners are eligible for the year-end Mechanix Wear Most Valuable Pit Crew Award and a check for $100,000 that is awarded at the 2009 NASCAR banquet.
