Talladega qualifying a wash, Hendrick drivers in top three
TALLADEGA, Ala. (Oct. 31, 2009)—Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon will line up first, second and third for Sunday’s AMP Energy 500 after the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying event was rained out Friday. Their Hendrick Motorsports teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. will roll off the grid 24th.
Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet, sits atop the Chase for the Sprint Cup standings. Martin, driver of the No. 5 Pop-Tarts/CARQUEST Chevrolet, trails Johnson by 118 points, while Gordon, driver of the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet, is 150 points out of first.
Earnhardt was the highest Hendrick Motorsports finisher at this track last April, when he took runner-up honors. This weekend, more than 73,000 fans will join Earnhardt as their names appear on his No. 88 AMP Energy ‘Get on the 88’/National Guard Chevrolet.
