CONCORD, N.C. - After 334 laps around the 1.5-mile oval at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, Alex Bowman took home a fifth-place finish.

It marked his first top-10 finish at Texas, and it was his seventh top-five result of 2019. His previous high in a season was three top-five finishes last year.

“We definitely had a really good car today,” the driver said. “It was just really tough to pass, but the guys did a good job. We came through the field a couple of times and had a good day.”

The No. 88 Valvoline Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was strong in both early segments of the race, finishing Stages 1 and 2 in fourth and seventh, respectively, to pick up additional points. After he took the checkered flag in fifth, the driver shared his pride in the No. 88 crew’s effort throughout the race.

“We started really tight and we made good adjustments throughout the day,” Bowman said. “Obviously, once the sun went down, the car got a lot better and we were pretty solid. I wish we could have had a little more track position and our strategy go our way a little more there at the end.”

Following the race, Bowman tweeted that his “solid top-five” was “definitely the finish we’ve been looking for here.”

Now, the Tucson, Arizona, native will head to his hometown track looking to build on that momentum. Be sure to catch the penultimate race of the season at ISM Raceway this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
