GMAC Racing Goes Into Off-Weekend Rolling

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 19, 2003) – It’s been two months since the NASCAR Busch Series last had a break in the 2003 schedule. In that eight-race span, however, GMAC Racing has made very good use of their time, rolling into this weekend’s mini-vacation as one of the hottest teams on the circuit. In the last six races, driver Brian Vickers and his crew have posted five top-10 finishes and climbed to sixth in the championship standings, just 149 points behind leader David Green. Only Bobby Hamilton, Jr. and Scott Riggs have accumulated more points in that six-race stretch. Although the off-weekend comes at a pivotal point for the team, it will allow crew members to spend some much-deserved time at home with their families while recharging their batteries for the weeks ahead. “Weekends off are always welcomed, but when you’ve been running as good as we have, you hate to have to stop for a weekend,” Vickers said. “The team is working so well together right now and it seems no matter what happens to us on the track, no one gives up. “I’m really proud of everyone on the GMAC team and can’t wait to get to Milwaukee next week.” Following this break in the schedule, the Busch Series will return to action on Sunday, June 29 at The Milwaukee Mile -- a track Vickers is familiar with. He made his Busch Series debut at “The Mile” in 2001 when he was only 17 years old, starting 30th and finishing 37th after being involved in an accident on Lap 55 of the event. The conclusion of the GNC 250 in Milwaukee will also close the book on the first half of the Busch Series schedule. In that time, the GMAC team has marched their way into the top 10 after being 42nd in the standings following the season-opener at Daytona in February -- with plenty of ups and downs in between. “We’ve come a long way since Daytona,” Vickers said. “The good thing is there’s plenty of racing left.” Live coverage of the GNC 250 from The Milwaukee Mile will begin on June 29 at 2 p.m. ET on FX and MRN.
