WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – Jimmie Johnson was the top qualifier among his Hendrick Motorsports teammates during Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying session at Watkins Glen International.
Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet, and scored the fourth-place spot. In nine starts at Watkins Glen, Johnson has three top-five finishes and four top-10 finishes.
Jeff Gordon, driver of the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet, will roll off the grid 17th. In 18 Cup events at Watkins Glen, Gordon has four wins, six top-five finishes and nine top-10s.
Mark Martin, driver of the No. 5 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet, will start 22nd in Sunday’s race, which will be televised at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN. In 21 Cup starts at Watkins Glen, Martin has three wins, 12 top-five finishes and 16 top-10s.
Dale Earnhardt Jr., driver of the No. 88 National Guard/AMP Energy Chevrolet, will start 25th. In 11 Cup starts at Watkins Glens, Earnhardt has two top-five finishes and three top-10s.
