Martin, Gordon and Johnson in top 14 for Las Vegas qualifying

LAS VEGAS – Mark Martin was the fastest qualifier among the Hendrick Motorsports drivers during Friday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying session at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Martin scored the 10th starting position in his No. 5 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet. In 13 Cup starts at Las Vegas, Martin has scored one win, six top-five finishes and 10 top-10s.

Jeff Gordon, driver of the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet, will start 13th. He has started 13th at the 1.5-mile racetrack twice before and most recently scored a fifth-place finish from this starting position in 2006. In 13 Cup starts at Las Vegas, Gordon has one win, six top-five finishes and seven top-10s.

Jimmie Johnson will line up 14th in his No. 48 Lowe’s/KOBALT Tools Chevrolet. Johnson owns the most victories at Las Vegas and most recently won there in February 2010. He has four wins, four top-five finishes and five top-10s in his nine Cup starts at Las Vegas.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. will roll off the grid 33rd in his No. 88 National Guard/AMP Energy Chevrolet. In his last 11 Cup starts at Las Vegas, Earnhardt has two top-five finishes and four top-10s.

Sunday’s race will be televised on FOX, and pre-race coverage begins at 2:30 p.m. ET. The race is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
