Gordon hands over keys for 2010 Corvette raffle winner

FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 8, 2010) – During Sunday’s pre-race festivities at Texas Motor Speedway, four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon presented the keys to his personal Corvette to raffle winner Cindy McCotter of Matthews, N.C. Gordon used the occasion to announce the launch of the 2011 raffle which is expected to raise $500,000 over the next year. The event has raised more than $2 million for pediatric cancer research, treatment and patient support, as well as the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital over the last five years. “There are currently over 40,000 children undergoing treatment for cancer in the United States and another 37 will be diagnosed today,” Gordon said. “This promotion helps us to raise significant funding to help these kids and we are grateful for the tremendous support of the NASCAR community.” After handing over the keys to the Corvette to McCotter, Gordon asked her to accompany him on stage in presenting the Texas Chapter Speedway Children’s Charities with a check for $75,000 designated to benefit childhood cancer initiatives in the state of Texas. McCotter admits she didn’t know much about the foundation before winning the Corvette. McCotter’s husband Greg, encouraged Cindy to purchase a ticket after seeing a commercial featuring Gordon, a six-year old cancer survivor and the Corvette. McCotter was reluctant, saying, “one hundred dollars is too expensive for a ticket to win a car.” Days later McCotter saw the commercial again and decided to find out more about the foundation’s work for children with cancer. After visiting the foundation’s website, McCotter, was inspired to purchase not one, but two tickets, never dreaming that the extra ticket would actually be the winner. McCotter says she feels very lucky to have won the car, but choosing to enter the Corvette raffle was more about contributing to the fight against childhood cancer.
