CONCORD, N.C. -- Last weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, Dale Earnhardt Jr. sat down with "TODAY Show" host Willie Geist for an in-depth interview on a wide range of topics.
One of the subjects the driver broached was not having his father there with him through many of his recent life changes -- from marrying Amy to the couple sharing the exciting news that a baby girl is on the way.
“I hated that I lost him, and I hate that he can’t be around to know my wife,” Earnhardt said. “And she wants to know him so badly. What kids we hope to have will never get to meet him and experience what he was like, because he was this really, really special person."
Earnhardt and Geist even took a few laps around Talladega in a Corvette provided by Hendrick Chevrolet of Hoover, Alabama.
