BROOKLYN, Mich. – Friday evening at Michigan International Speedway, Alex Bowman led his teammates in qualifying with a top-10 performance.

Bowman was the only Hendrick Motorsports driver to advance to the final round, earning a 10th-place starting position for Sunday's race.

Bowman's three teammates all advanced to Round 2 of the qualifying session, with Jimmie Johnson rolling off the grid in 19th, William Byron in 20th and Chase Elliott in 21st.

"Wasn't quite turning like I was hoping it would," Elliott said after the session. "We had a hard time here in the spring race too. Not sure why but hopefully we can get it worked out tomorrow and move forward."

Denny Hamlin won the pole.
