Gordon Leads Hendrick in Martinsville Time Trials

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (Oct. 22, 2004) – Jeff Gordon led the Hendrick pack in qualifying and will start Sunday’s 500-miler from the 15th spot. Gordon navigated his No. 24 DuPont Chevy to a lap of 95.651 mph and 19.797 seconds around the .526-mile oval. Championship contender Jimmie Johnson and Team Lowe’s Racing will start 18th after posting a lap of 95.304 mph. Two-time champion Terry Labonte, will start the No. 5 Kellogg’s Racing Chevrolet from the 27th spot on the grid after posting a lap of 94.746 mph on the famous Virginia short track. Driving the No. 25 GMAC Financial Services Monte Carlo, rookie Brian Vickers will line up 34th. NBC (12:30 p.m. ET) and MRN Radio (12 p.m. ET) will carry the event live from Martinsville Speedway on Sunday.
