Hendrick Motorsports Remembers September 11th

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Sept. 9, 2002) -- In remembrance of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, the four NASCAR Winston Cup Series and two NASCAR Busch Series teams of Hendrick Motorsports will display commemorative artwork on their Chevrolet race cars at three upcoming events. “We all have our own thoughts and feelings about the anniversary of September 11th,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “Everyone involved with our teams, from sponsors to drivers to crew members, felt it was important for us to do something in memory of those events and the people affected by them.” Each race car will carry a primary logo on its rear deck lid, with a smaller “freedom ribbon” displayed on the C-post. Created by artist Sam Bass, the primary design uses a red, white and blue color scheme to convey themes of unity, strength and hope. All four Winston Cup teams will run identical “9-11” logos in the New Hampshire 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 15, followed by the newly renamed MBNA All-American Heroes 400 at Dover (Del.) International Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 22. Both Busch Series teams will display the artwork on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Dover during the MBNA All-American Heroes 200. Hendrick Motorsports fields the No. 5 Kellogg’s Chevrolet of Terry Labonte, the No. 24 DuPont Chevy of Jeff Gordon, the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Monte Carlo of Joe Nemechek and the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet of Jimmie Johnson in Winston Cup competition, along with the No. 5 GMAC Chevrolet of Ricky Hendrick and the No. 24 NetZero Chevy of Jack Sprague in the Busch Series.
