Labonte to Lead Annual Charity Ride

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (April 15, 2003) – With an off-weekend coming up for the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, Terry Labonte will be on two wheels instead of four as he leads nearly 100 riders in the second annual Terry Labonte / Ronald McDonald House “Roam For A Home.” The charity motorcycle ride will begin and end in Corpus Christi, Texas, Labonte’s hometown, to raise awareness of and funding for the Ronald McDonald House. The two-time Winston Cup champion commissioned artist Nick Pastura to customize a Harley-Davidson Road King Motorcycle, which he will ride in the 600-mile tour of South Texas. At the conclusion of the event, Labonte will autograph the bike and it will then be raffled off. The tour will begin on Thursday morning, April 17 in Corpus Christi and end that evening in Austin. On Friday, April 18, riders will travel from Austin to San Antonio by way of a big loop through the beautiful Texas Hill Country. On Saturday, the 19th, the “Roam” will parade to the Gulf Coast, south on Interstate 37 into Corpus Christi for closing ceremonies at the Executive Surf Club. “The ‘Roam’ is possible because of Terry’s commitment to the city of Corpus Christi on one of his few off-weekends during the NASCAR season,” said Randall Hicks, a longtime friend of Labonte’s and one of the tour’s organizers. “It’s for a good cause and the level of interest has been unbelievably high considering this is only our second year.” Following the April 13 Virginia 500 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Labonte, driver of the No. 5 Kellogg`s / got milk? Chevrolet, headed to Corpus Christi for the motorcycle ride and will return to NASCAR competition the week of April 21 with a trip to California Speedway for the Auto Club 500 in Fontana.
