Michigan qualifying: Johnson, Gordon in top 10

BROOKLYN, Mich. (June 11, 2010) – Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon claimed spots in the top 10 to lead Hendrick Motorsports during Friday’s rain-delayed NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying session at Michigan International Speedway. Johnson, who has started inside the top 10 in the last nine events at Michigan, will roll of the grid third in his No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet on Sunday. In this race last June, Johnson lined up third and led a race-high 146 laps before losing the fuel-mileage gamble. Johnson ran out of gas with three laps to go and crossed the finish line 22nd. Gordon will take the green flag in the sixth position on Sunday. The driver of the No. 24 DuPont/National Guard Job Skills Chevrolet received an early draw on Friday and experienced a loose-handling condition that affected his qualifying attempt. Mark Martin, driver of the No. 5 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet, and Dale Earnhardt Jr., driver of the No. 88 AMP Energy/National Guard Chevrolet, will start 21st and 27th, respectively. TNT will televise Sunday’s event starting at 1 p.m. ET.
