CONCORD, N.C. -- For the second consecutive stage at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Jimmie Johnson took the green checkered flag inside the top five.

In Stage 2, he continued his push forward, finding the runner-up position just 25 laps in.

He maintained that position throughout the remainder of the segment, which featured a lengthy red flag due to rain in the area.

The second-place finish in Stage 2 netted Johnson nine more extra points for the 600-mile event.

This time around, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kasey Kahne swapped positions from Stage 1, with Kahne finishing Stage 2 in 15th and Earnhardt crossing the line 18th. Chase Elliott remained scored 38th after his day ended in Stage 1.

Martin Truex Jr. won the stage.

Stage 3 consists of another 100 laps before the final 100-lap segment.
