Hendrick Motorsports celebrates Underdog Day
Jimmie Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet, entered the eighth race of the 2009 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup at Texas Motor Speedway with a 184-point lead over second-place and then-teammate Mark Martin. While battling for position early in the 500-mile event, Johnson made contact with another car and hit the inside wall. The incident prompted the No. 48 team to report to the garage, where crew chief Chad Knaus oversaw their efforts to repair the car and send Johnson back onto the track. Johnson finished 38th and was able to salvage his championship lead. He ultimately recorded his fourth consecutive championship.
