Gordon Earns Bristol Pole

BRISTOL, Tenn. (Aug. 23, 2002)—Jeff Gordon earned his second consecutive NASCAR Winston Cup Series pole position at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway on Friday in the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet.
The four-time Winston Cup champion earned the first Sharpie 500 starting spot with a lap of 15.470 seconds and 124.034 mph, .012 seconds ahead of Dale Earnhardt Jr., who won the second position.
Joe Nemechek will start 20th in the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Chevy, Terry Labonte 24th in the No. 5 Kellogg’s Monte Carlo and Jimmie Johnson 32nd in the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet.
The Sharpie 500 is scheduled for an 8 p.m. green flag at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 24.
