CONCORD, N.C. – Two weeks ago, Jimmie Johnson and his teammates put together a disaster relief fund to support hurricane victims. Between contributions from all four Hendrick Motorsports drivers, the Hendrick Motorsports organization, Hendrick Automotive Group and the general public, the fund has now raised more than $340,000 – and there’s still time to join the cause by making a tax-deductible donation at HendrickRelief.org.
The fund was created after Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas. Since then, a second hurricane – Irma – caused significant damage in the state of Florida.
In addition to donating money, Johnson has made sure to donate his time.
Monday, the driver spent his day in Naples, Florida, to provide some comfort and a morale boost to employees of two Lowe’s stores affected by the hurricane.
He also helped install an air conditioning unit and a generator and participated in tree removal for a 97-year-old homeowner in the area.
He brought his daughter, Evie, to help with the recovery efforts.

All funds raised during the campaign will aid nonprofit organizations that directly support those affected by recent and impending natural disasters. Representatives from each of the four driver foundations and Hendrick Motorsports will work to identify where funds should be directed. Emphasis will be placed on organizations that directly support communities affected by natural disasters and that maintain efficient operations to assure the most money possible will go toward helping those impacted.
