FORT WORTH, Texas -- The Hendrick Motorsports young gun will lead his teammates to the green flag in Saturday's 500-mile race at Texas Motor Speedway.

The four drivers took to the track ready to lay down solid qualifying laps with all four transferring through the first round of qualifying.

However, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kasey Kahne did not make it through the second round. They will start 16th and 17th, respectively, in tomorrow's race.

Chase Elliott and Jimmie Johnson both advanced to the final round of qualifying. Elliott will roll off the grid inside the top five in fourth while Johnson will start in 11th.

"The guys did a good job getting the car closer," Earnhardt said of the No. 88 Nationwide team's effort. "I really liked the first run, we had a good lap there but maybe a little bit too tight entering and over-drove the entrance; we'll have to check it out. I had to lift and use a little bit of brake in Turns 1 and 2 and that's never good."

Carl Edwards will start on the pole.
