CONCORD, N.C. –  This weekend, one of the most anticipated races of the season arrives – the Southern 500.

The Labor Day weekend event has cultivated a throwback feel for its festivities, and this year will be no different.

Several of the Hendrick Motorsports teammates are among the competitors who will pilot throwback paint schemes this weekend at Darlington Raceway, and those retro rides are currently up for a fan vote.

For weeks, fans have been selecting their favorite throwback paint scheme, and now the field has been whittled down to two cars – with William Byron’s No. 24 Axalta Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 as one of the two finalists.

Byron will pilot a ride that sports a rainbow-themed design, paying homage one of the most memorable No. 24 paint schemes of all-time – Jeff Gordon’s iconic rainbow ride from the 1990s.

The rookie’s No. 24 scheme outlasted Clint Bowyer’s No. 14 car in the semi-finals, and he now goes head-to-head against the No. 99 ride of Derrike Cope in the finals.

Voting is open through Friday, Aug. 31, and the 2018 Darlington Best in Show winner will be announced before the beginning of Sunday evening’s race.

Fans can cast their ballots here.
