CONCORD, N.C. – John Gianninoto is officially the fastest fueler in the world.
At least that’s what his brand-new Guinness World Record certificate says.
Last weekend, the No. 9 team fueler headed to New York before Sunday’s race at Martinsville Speedway to tackle an attempt at a world record.
At a Sunoco station, Gianninoto attempted to set a new world record for the most vehicles refueled by an individual in one hour.
It marked a brand-new category for Guinness, so while there was no previous record to break, the organization set a minimum of 140 cars for the attempt to succeed.
“I felt good,” the fueler said. “I was watching it – I just needed to get past that 140 point. I was getting a little nervous.”
Gianninoto raced between pumps throughout the full hour, fueling up car after car while trying not to scoreboard-watch too often.
The weather threw a curveball during the proceedings, as well, as it rained throughout the attempt.
“I’ll tell you one thing, we don’t race in the rain, so, that was a little bit difficult,” he said. “I thought I was going to bust it a few times.”
He made it to the finish line through all the challenges thrown his way. And after a careful tally, it was determined that Gianninoto refueled 148 cars, officially setting a Guinness World Record.
The fueler said it was an “absolutely amazing” experience.
“I’m glad everything worked out,” he said. “I just want to say thank you to everyone who helped out. Everyone at the pumps, you were awesome.”
The next chance for Gianninoto to showcase that speed on pit road comes this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway as the Round of 8 continues with Chase Elliott looking to advance his way to the Championship 4.
Sunday’s race at Texas is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on NBCSN, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
