CONCORD, N.C. -- Jimmie Johnson is passionate about racing, but he's also dedicated to the philanthropic efforts of the Jimmie Johnson Foundation.

Each year, Comcast recognizes three individuals within the NASCAR community who strive to serve their communities in positive ways off the track.

Thursday evening on NBC Sports Network's NASCAR America, Johnson was named as one of the three finalists for the 2017 Comcast Community Champion of the Year award.

“Comcast is committed to community investment and we are thrilled to utilize our NASCAR partnership to once again celebrate the true spirit of the individuals that make this sport what it is today,” said Matt Lederer, Executive Director of Sports Marketing at Comcast. “The annual Comcast Community Champion of the Year Award has proven to be a great platform for us to uncover and honor the selfless heroes inside the NASCAR family we are so fortunate to be a part of.”

The winner will be announced Thursday, Nov. 16 in conjunction with the NASCAR championship weekend. A $60,000 contribution will be made to the charitable organization with which the winner is affiliated, with $30,000 in contributions going to the organizations of the remaining two finalists.
