CONCORD, N.C. -- To close out his NASCAR Cup Series career, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Axalta figured there was no better way to go out than with a paint scheme that paid tribute to the way he came in.
This weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the driver will pilot a red No. 88 Axalta Chevrolet SS with black and white stripes, paying homage to the driver’s very first paint scheme, which debuted in 1999 when he competed in his first career Cup Series race.
Earnhardt first unveiled the Chevy live on QVC on Aug. 2 from inside Axalta's Customer Experience Center on the Hendrick Motorsports campus.
Months later, the scheme came to life inside that very same building.
